how to avoid pregnancy stretch marks

After finding out I was pregnant, I put a lot of time and energy into my pregnancy skincare routine and made a game plan for the next several months.  My main concern has been keeping hydration and elasticity in my growing belly so my skin will not have to work as hard to expand and later shrink once the baby arrives.

After hours of Google searches, reading blog posts and watching YouTube videos, I finally found the skincare combination that I feel the most comfortable with.  Being in the beauty industry, I already know that oils and serums are going to be the most effective products for me to buy but which ones do I need?  Each oil or serum works in a specific way and they provide different benefits to my skin so finding the right combination is key.

What Am I Looking For?

As I researched, I looked for products that would not just sit on top of my skin but would absorb into the actual skin cells in order to fully reap the benefits of the ingredients.

What I Use:

All Natural Advice: Anti-Aging Vitamin C Serum

This vitamin c serum is my triple threat.  With vitamins C, E, and Hyaluronic Acid, I am giving my belly almost everything it needs to regenerate cells and let the skin repair itself.  Hyaluronic acid is an amazing ingredient that holds 1000 times its weight in water and as a humectant will attract hydration to wherever it is applied on the skin.  On top of that, it tightens the skin, smooths texture and makes skin more resilient. Vitamin C and E will boost collagen, reduce the appearance of scars and works as an antioxidant.

Majestic Pure: Rosehip Oil

Rosehip oil does quite a few things for your skin and I have been using it as a preventative measure.  You really want to use your skin care daily for a few months before a problem (like stretch marks) occurs so your skin has time to prepare and reap the benefits of the product.  Rosehip oil had essential fatty acids that will help with skin discoloration, evens tone and smooths out the texture.  Added bonus, it has anti-aging properties as well so if you have dry skin, feel free to use it on your face as well!

Mama Mio: The Tummy Rub Butter

If I’m being 100% honest, I read that many celebrities including Kourtney K use the Mama Mio line and thought, “If it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for me!”  So I wasn’t being ridiculous, I looked into the brand a little more and realized they use fantastic ingredients and I immediately wanted the entire line.  As far as I know, I’m not made of money (go figure), so I only picked up what I thought would be the most useful product for me which was The Tummy Rub Butter.  This 4oz jar has lasted me for a very long time as a little goes a long way.  So far it is working beautifully.  The scent is light, my skin looks supple and does not feel sticky if put my clothes on immediately after application.

How To Use:

I use all of these products from my chest down to the tops of my thighs and around to my back after I get out of the shower and towel off.  With the serums first followed by the Tummy Rub Butter, I don’t feel like my skin is thick, heavy, weighed down or greasy.  If I feel I need it, I will apply them twice a day but so far I have been sticking to once a day most of the time.  After trying many other brands of belly oils, I am happy to report that you get a fresh, clean scent with the products listed above unlike many of the others I have tried and trust me, most of them smell awful.

In addition to using topical treatments, I make sure to stay hydrated by drinking a ton of water and coconut water as well as maintaining a diet with healthy fats (avocados, nuts, that kind of thing!) and staying active.  Taking care of yourself internally is just as if not more important than anything you can do topically.
